Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Imagine this as kind of like a “Secret Santa.” You will be given the name, address, and interests of another participant, and you will create a new piece of art specifically for them. There is no cost involved, except what you put in to your own creation, plus the shipping. If you live in the 417-area, we will have a Mix & Mingle where you may be able to swap art in person.

Important Dates:

  • March 31st – Registration Closes

  • May 20th – Shipping Deadline

  • June 8th - Spring Fling Mix & Mingle at Arts & Letters

Throughout this process, we want you to post to social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. But please do not announce who will be receiving your art. That’s a secret! Hashtag any post with #queencityartswap2015

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI or the 417 AREA CODE TO PARTICIPATE?

No, you certainly do not. You will be expected to mail your art by the agreed deadline, however.

HOW MANY PIECES OF ART DO I HAVE TO MAKE?

Just one piece that you are proud of and would be happy to submit to a fellow artist. If you want to include more than one piece, you are more than welcome to, of course. You can even package up your art with trinkets from your hometown, or send along items that inspire you. But you are only obligated to send one piece of original art to the name we provide you.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Click on the following link to submit your application. This is FREE, but we do ask that you stick with your commitment so that everyone who signs up receives a piece of art!

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?

You will need to pay for the shipping of your art, plus any costs that go in to your creation. Otherwise, Queen City Art Swap is not charging you a fee to participate.

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?

Whatever your heart desires to create! This is open to artists of all media. Painting, photography, graphic design, fiber arts, weaving, quilting, fashion design…

You will be responsible for mailing your own piece, so keep that in mind when you stretch your canvas, sew your garment, weave your web, print your comic book.

I’M NOT A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST. IS THAT OKAY?

We encourage artists of all levels and skills to participate! Keep in mind, this is a swap, and art is subjective. If you think you will be disappointed about receiving art work you don’t enjoy, then maybe a swap isn’t the best fit for you. We want this to be a positive experience for all participants!

WHO IS BEHIND ALL OF THIS?

Nicole Chilton (Moxie Cinema co-founder), and Stephanie Hornickel (aka, “The Lady in Thread”)
